Brent,
I also have a 1936 S/42, military all matching luger. Grips have a letter or two stamped inside, but no proofs or matching serial#'s. The grips are walnut, perfect fit, and appear to be original to the pistol. Seems like I covered this ground before to find out that not all 1936's had serialized grips, maybe someone else can expand on this.
