What do I have????

I have a Mauser/Luger?
It has the wood grips, wood bumpers on the mag.
I guess it is a .380? 9 mm rounds are too long by a tad to fit into the magazine.

On the bottom of the lower right below the barrel it says 646* Germany with some little squiggle below it.
The matching serial # is on the bottom of the barrel. Above the trigger on the safety side and next to it on the slide release is the #6* (the last two #'s of the serial #)

Just behing the barrel, above the release lever is a "N" with a crown above it

On the umm top of the gun, the sliding action (I dont know what to properly call it but the part you use to chamber your first round) there is a squiggly design. I can't think of a better way to describe it.

There is what would appear to be a loop of sorts on the back of the frame.

It looks like the ones from the pic thread labled Krieghoff? and it says GESICHERT on the top safety positon. Also it seems to have something on the bottom part of the frame/grip the middle of it kinda sticks out...Do I need to post a pic or is this pretty obvious what I have?

Are there any other markings I should look for?
Can someone tell me what it is I have, what the value may be? How I may find out the history of it if any at all? It looks like everything is orignal and it is in pretty nice condition.

Hello and welcome to the forum Jeremy. I moved your thread to the new collectors area.

It is not a Krieghoff and at first glance you would see lots of guns that look like yours, it is in the details that you see the different types of guns.

I imagine the top of the toggle it says DWM, in cursive and intertwined.

Tell us this information (I answered a few you said);

Can you tell us any markings on the gun?

Proofs? (Crown N, this is a commerical marking)


There are forms in this section, where you can print out and then write down pertinent information.

What serial number is on the gun? To include any letters next to or under the serial number?

What year or letters are stamped on the top of the receiver?

What initials or letters are on the toggle?

Can you provide pictures, to include side, top, etc?

All of the marking are described.

I think you are right about the top being DWM

The serial # as I said is 646*

There are no other marking really except 6* (the last 2 digits of the serial # on it at various points as described in my post)

There is no year I saw anywhere on it.

As I said, a 9 mm round is just a tad too long to fit in the magazine.

Lugers came in 7.65mm and 9mm, but *both* use the same magazine. what brand of 9mm were you trying?

I bet it is a 1920 commercial made in 7.65mm (also called 30 luger).

yes you did, this is the questions I have on my desktop for people asking questions. You asked about 30 questions, so sometimes it is hard to sort through.

Value, well, provide pictures and we can guess, anywhere from $300-$700, with the middle ground most likely...

The little squiggle under the serial number is a lower case letter and is part of the serial number. The thing that sticks out on the bottom of the frame/grip is a stock attachment lug.
Is the "N" with a crown above it by the release lever vertical "|" or horizontal "--"?
Depending on the answer to that last question, it is likely you have a 1920 Commercial Luger, and the caliber is probably 7.65mm. It is difficult to think that a 9mm round is a tad too long to fit in the magazine (the same magazine works for 7.65mm and 9mm) unless you have 9mm Largo rounds rather than 9mm Parabellum.

The round I tried to place in the magazine was a 9 mm 124 gr Speer GoldDot and I could get the first rd in no problem but it stuck out a tad so I could not place a second rd in the magazine.

The bottom of the grip looks exactly like the Krieghoff.

The loop on the back is the same as the Krieghoof.

I am sure that many of them have this but I am just trying to describe it the best I can.

There really arent many markings on this at all.

I believe it is an all matching piece as the last two digits of the serial # is stamped on many of the parts.

The crown and N on the barrel are vertical with the barrel.

The serial # is right next to the frame then above that is the N and then above that is the crown.

Yogi, if you can manage it, pictures are really what's needed.

It's amost certainly a 1920 commercial and it's almost certainly not a Kreighoff.

The squiggles in the top of the toggle are the DWM logo which stands for Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken and is the manufacturer of your Luger.

Another posibility is that this is one of those Japanese none guns that will chamber 8mm blanks. These have undersized magazines. TH
