Default How Many Lugers Do You Own ?

Thought this Poll might be fun.

One can participate in the Poll and keep one's identity a secret by not posting a message in the discussion threads.

You can merely make an entry in the Poll and no one will know who you are.

Pete, I think I would have gone up in 10 increments up to 50, and then by 25's...

10-50 seems like a large spread to me

None of your business!!!!!

Orv Reichert once told me if you have one, you're a novice. If you have two, you're a collector and if you have more than two, you're an advanced collector.

Maybe your poll should just ask if you are a novice, collector or advanced collector!!!

Ed,

Please feel free to break-up the 10-50 selection if you want. I cannot as I am not a Moderator in this section. I think I used 9 out of the 10 catagories allowed when a Poll is set up. Maybe edit it to do 10-25 and then 25-50 ??? I am not sure what would happen to the "votes" already registered, however.

Frank,

Maybe a Poll for "How Many Years Have Ya Been A Grumpy Fellow" might be in order...???

I only own one and it is a shooter. I put 100 rounds through it today!

At the risk of starting a new poll I have wondered what the ratio of collectors to shooters are on this forum.

Chris,

What would have been really cool would have been a combined Poll asking about :

1. Age

2. Sex (male versus female)...

3. Number of lugers owned.

4. Percentage of shooter versus collector-grade lugers in our collections.

5. Break-down of lugers owned into the Eras (Imperial, Weimar, 3rd. Reich, Post-WWII, etc.)

But I do not think the Polling features could be stretched that much on the LF...in a single, combined Poll.

Pete,
Here you go.

1. See previous poll.

2. Yes, but only with my wife.

3. Not enough. (Virus called Lugeritis)

4. 100% for both.

5. Everytime I clean them. It is easier that way.

Great poll, thanks for bringing it up.

Sid.

Frank,

I am not sure how to really quantitatively or qualitatively determine "novice" from "collector" to "advanced collector".

I know a few fellows that might be rich enough to own over 50+ lugers, but from their knowledge, gun show experiences, number of luger books owned, experience in determining legit from boosted piece, and whom they buy lugers from, etc...some might consider them still a "novice" even with safes full of lugers.

I also know some other really luger-smart fellows that are poor as paupers and may only own 3-5 lugers, but they would be hard to match when it comes to spotting a boosted piece.

So I figured knowing how many lugers Member have might be a good start.

Maybe another Poll should be started to ask "How Many Years Have You Been Collecting Lugers ?" might be a good one, as well.

Pete,

Undoubtedly your goal for this poll was innocent: it "might be fun" to use your words, however, I must agree with policeluger and tac. There is no such thing as "anonymous" on the internet. I do not consider myself paraniod although I think it is plausible and likely that some government agency monitors posts on this forum. Our anonymity ends with a court order. The irony is that forum members I am familiar with (including myself) are mostly loyal veterans of the US armed forces. In my opinion, this kind of information is unsuitable for public dissemination. Only the people who responded to the post via "posting" can you see anything. The poll itself shows nothing but numbers. If I click on the poll as moderator, I see the same thing you do, simply the numbers. I could change the numbers, but that is all I can see.

There is no IP address listed?
There is no name associated with the numbers?
There is no address associated with the posting?
There is no state associated with the posting?

Only if someone wants to click and "reveal" their numbers is this revealing anything.

So, unsure how this reveals anything about a specific person?

I will ask John D to tell us if as administrator he can see anything;
if he can see individual IP addresses that point to a person... then I will delete the posting, because obviously many folks are paranoid that they will be revealed. That never occured to me.

This forum's private information is behind more security than many large corporations. The ONLY persons that have any access to sensitive information are John D. Ed Tinker, and myself...and even Ed and I are limited in what we can see... for instance, Ed and I can't even see last names in the membership database.

Ed is entirely correct that anyone who voted in this poll did so anonymously leaving behind only the numbers... there is no way to recover who voted, or whether or not what they voted about was even true...

Big brother will always be watching, but there just isn't anything in this thread to SEE unless you manually posted a "REPLY" and then only what is normally visible when you post on the forum...

Let me repeat, the votes in the poll are completely without ties to any member... the only thing you can be sure of is that members of this forum cast the vote because if you are not a registered member, you can't vote...

lighten up guys...

Hey Pete,
do a poll of the age group of the people who refuse to answer the other poll questions. That would be interesting!

Hey guys!

John S. and Ed are right.. The only person that can see the raw data is "me" - which in the case of a poll, is nothing... On my end, even in the logs - all I capture is IP addresses and page hits - as anything else is not necessary for what I use the logs for (if the site is hacked..) - so I don't record it...

Anyway - the logs sit inside several firewalls - and not to go into detail, the only way I can get to those is by sitting in front of the server itself.... It's the same place I store membership/user data (like someone's last name - which only I can see as well. In fact - I purge that stuff at regular intervals, anyway..

Well - the short story is - even when I "vote" in a poll - I can't see my personal data - however - I CAN change my vote

Best to you!

I first thought is was meant as a joke on the age poll, but there are clearly different opinions about this.

Directly aimed question, to a specific person trough the internet, is to be very cautious about. As we newer can be 100% sure who the other person is. But these poll's are about as anonymous as it gets.. most questions we receive every day are more sensitive! We then reveal who we are in person.
The only information ' the others' can use, is the fact that Luger collectors indeed HAVE Lugers and the fact that we ARE alive. .. if I would guess wildly, that would be exactly my guess.

Wish you all a nice weekend!

Steinar
