Numbered imperial tool
A friend showed me an imperial Luger tool, marked with crown/D. The back has a four digit number. My thought is that it was recycled post WWI as a police issue. Is there any reason it would have been numbered originally?

Aaron..NO! Imperial issued and used tools were not serialed..only Police use later on can account for this number being on it.

Jerry is correct, police issued. It is the serial number of a police Luger.

I agree with what is said above, however, unless I am remembering wrong, there was a short period of time during the Weimar period when the number of the gun was supposed to be stamped onto the loading tool for army.
I believe I read it in Gortz and Bryans. Ed |
